Muscular imbalance, evidenced by poor posture, is the primary cause of chronic pain. Disease and Trauma certainly also cause pain, but posture is usually the primary underlying cause. In other words, LUMBAGO, SCIATICA, and CARPEL TUNNEL ARE SYMPTOMS, NOT CAUSES. Regaining muscular balance is the ONLY cure. |

Surgery, drugs, adjustments, and relaxation massage will make you feel better temporarily. However, permanent relief is only achieved by regaining the proper balance between opposing muscles. In short, people with good posture don’t have chronic pain. Those of us with poor posture do! The diagrams to the left show examples of proper muscle balance and stages of degraded muscle balance. If a contracture at L4 / L5 is compressing the sciatic nerve you will be in pain. If treatment reduces the muscle tension causing the nerve to be “pinched” the pain will be reduced or go away. If you have rounded shoulders, a tilted pelvis or your head sticks forward, you are in pain. Correct the imbalances (posture) and your pain will go (and stay) away. It really is mostly that simple. It is my opinion that most knee or hip surgeries could have been avoided if only the offending muscles were brought back into balance in time. I hope that you are now asking “so how do I cure the pain?” Simple, correct the poor posture that is causing the trigger point that is causing the pain! My experience is that good Chiropractic adjustment, knowledgeable massage treatment and the proper strengthening and stretching exercises will have you pain free in short order. Leave out the exercises and it will take significantly (infinitely) longer. It is my observation that many people in chronic pain have a genetic condition called Morton’s Toe. The second metatarsal is longer than the first. (Go to www.triggerpointbook.com/mortons.htm for more information). Most “Morton Toe” people walk with their feet turned out (duck feet). A few have their feet turned in (pigeon toe). It is the body’s way of trying to provide better stability. This causes alignment problems all the way from the ankles to the head. If you don’t have a personal trainer and don’t want to spend time in the Gym, Pete Egoscue has written 3 or 4 excellent books on reducing or eliminating pain. I have read two of them, “The Egoscue Method of Health Through Motion” and “Pain Free”. I absolutely agree with virtually everything Pete says in these two books. Both are available on Amazon.com. Samantha and I will also happily share strengthening and stretching exercises the experts say will help. |
